How to plant carrots so that they sprout quickly and do not thin out

Thinning carrots is a long, tedious and unpleasant task. In order not to spend hours on the garden bed in the process of its cultivation, it is necessary to know the methods of planting carrots, in which the seedlings will appear uniform, neat.

Planting carrots with seeds in open ground without subsequent thinning

In the practice of gardeners, there are several options for such planting carrots:

  • on toilet paper (as an alternative to purchased strips for garden crops);
  • jelly landing;
  • before winter (this option is relevant for the autumn period).

Seed preparation

Carrot seeds must be calibrated before working with them. Salt the water and pour the seeds from the bag into it. Those that come up must be removed. Sinking to the bottom will be ideal for landing.

Preparation must be done in advance: 12 days before they are planted in open ground. First of all, the seeds from the bag are poured onto a prepared rag and tied so that a knot is obtained. Do not tighten the fabric too much so that the planting material lies freely.

The second step: a hole is dug, 25-30 cm deep and a prepared knot is placed there. The soil is moistened and covered with earth from above. In the allotted 12 days, the existing essential oils will come out, which prevent the high-quality germination of carrots.

Over time, the nodule is removed. The seeds that are there will increase significantly in size, they may even begin to germinate. It becomes much easier to work with such material. Then the contents are poured into a bowl and mixed with potato starch, which makes the seeds not so sticky, white and convenient for further manipulations (thanks to the color change, they are clearly visible on dark soil).

How to plant

A groove of the required length is made on the prepared bed. Due to the fact that the carrot seeds have increased in size, they are easy to plant with sufficient spacing between planting material. Sprinkle with earth or sand on top. Such simple manipulations will ensure good germination, and will save you from thinning in the future.

The sown furrow does not need watering. The seeds sprout well anyway. The appearance of a crust on the soil after watering will only slow down the development of seedlings. With the correct fulfillment of all conditions, the first sprouts will appear in 3-5 days.

You can slightly change the way you prepare. After removing the nodule from the ground, the seeds are poured into warm water (not hotter than 50 degrees). Withstand this until the liquid cools completely. Further, the material is taken out, dried and sown in the above way.

You can plant the carrots so that they do not thin out afterwards, you can stick the seeds on toilet paper. You will need a three-layer roll, special starch glue and a cotton swab.

To prepare the glue, you need to boil a glass of water and put a teaspoon of starch there. Boil until thick, then cool. Next, a drop of glue is applied to the prepared strips (about 1 cm wide) of paper with a cotton swab, on top of which a seed is laid out. The distance between the drops is 4-5 cm.

In the prepared area, grooves are made about 3 cm deep. Further, strips with seeds are laid in them and crushed by the earth. It is important to know that with this method of planting, the planting material germinates much longer: up to 20 days.

This can be done in autumn or spring. Planting in the winter gives an early harvest. This method is not suitable for regions with harsh climates, but it can be used for mild winters. The change sown in autumn undergo a natural hardening process, therefore, they are more resistant to temperature changes. Soaked in moisture, they will give a good harvest. So that your work does not go to waste, observe the following rules for growing winter carrots:

Seeds are sown not earlier than the onset of the first cold weather. The average daily temperature should be 0-2 degrees. If you do this earlier, then the seeds will germinate and die after the first frost. Sowing seeds in slightly frozen ground will be more beneficial.
Choose a flat area so that the snow that will melt in the spring does not wash the seeds out of the soil. Remember, this root vegetable loves light, so don't place the garden in the shade.

To grow a healthy root vegetable, do not use soil after beans, carrots and parsley, but after tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, it is quite possible to plant carrots.

Fresh manure is not applied before planting. In 2020, you can use soil fertilized no earlier than two years ago. Cow dung is oversaturated with nitrogen (nitrates), which root crops absorb the fastest. As a result, both the quantity and quality of the crop suffer.

Be sure to check with the lunar calendar when to plant and when to sow the seeds of this root crop are unfavorable days. For such vegetables, the waning moon phase is suitable. The new moon and full moon are the times when it is generally not recommended to work in the garden. The signs of Taurus, Cancer, Capricorn, Scorpio and Pisces are considered favorable for this root crop. Vegetables planted closer to the full moon will grow in length, and closer to the new moon - in width. This is important to consider when choosing a carrot variety.

Growing a mulberry tree:

Well-lit places, protected from cold stagnation, are suitable for mulberry. It would be ideal to set aside sandy loam, sandy or loose loamy soils for planting. Young seedlings are planted either in early autumn (September - early October) or in April. The planting hole is dug 80x80x60 cm in size. It is sprinkled with fertile soil, compost or humus in combination with complex fertilizers. Saplings are planted in the center, spreading the roots, then sprinkled with earth and tamped. Finish planting with abundant watering (one bucket) and mulching.

2. Tree care

Abundant watering is required during the period of active growth, especially during bud break. It is also important to feed the plant. For example, fermented slurry or bird droppings mixed with water in a ratio of 1: 5 and 1:10. Top dressing stops from the beginning of July and the plant is now watered only in case of severe drought.

3. Reproduction

Mulberries are cut, planted with seeds, separated from the mother tree. Reproduction of decorative varieties is carried out by grafting on seedlings.

If you decide to propagate by seeds, then it is advisable to use the seeds of the current year. Peel them from the pulp and can be stored indoors at room temperature until planting. The seeds are sown in February, but before that they are soaked in a special solution - a growth biostimulator for a couple of hours. After that, they are slightly dried and sown in a nutritious soil, then sprinkled with soil by 1 cm.The temperature in the room should be from 20 to 22 ° C. Seeds, as a rule, give strong and friendly shoots. After germination, the seedlings are placed in another place - more illuminated and with a temperature of 16–20 ° C. In April, they are planted in a school garden bed, filled with fertilizers in the fall. During planting, there should be 5-6 meters between the plants.

Typically, mulberry formative pruning is not required, this is only necessary if it is necessary to give the crown a cupped shape. The tops of the main and other shoots are cut to restrain the growth of the tree. However, for cold regions this happens by itself by freezing the upper shoots and the appearance of root shoots, due to which a coppice bush is formed.

When and how to plant parsley outdoors?

It is necessary to plant parsley with seeds around the middle of May, when the threat of frost has passed. Note that it will take you about 80 days to get the first harvest. That is, more than 2 months. Therefore, the seeds that you planted in May will yield at the end of July.

  • It is necessary to thoroughly loosen the soil, it must be fertile
  • In no case should you plant parsley after dill or carrots. Grows well after tomatoes
  • After loosening, you need to prepare the bed. The depth of the grooves should be about 2 cm, the distance between the rows is 5-10 cm
  • After digging the grooves, pour the prepared seeds into them tightly enough, soaking them beforehand.
  • Next, you need to cover it with earth and water it abundantly. After that, take polyethylene, or some other covering material, and cover the landing site
  • Moisten the parsley from time to time. This kind of shelter is a kind of greenhouse that prevents moisture evaporation.
  • This will contribute to the rapid emergence of seedlings, as well as the rapid growth of greenery.
  • After the first shoots appear, the covering material is removed and the parsley is regularly watered
  • She loves moisture, so try to water her as often as possible.
  • The sunny side is ideal for planting, although the parsley grows well in the shade.
  • But denser thickets are obtained precisely in sunny places.
  • There is no need to thin out the parsley, it always grows in large bushes, quite lush
  • This does not prevent her from giving new leaves and shoots.

Seeder from a plastic bottle. How to make a seeder

Manual seeders have approximately the same mechanism: it is a rotating sleeve with grooves in which the seeds are located. During the movement, these seeds are dropped into the furrow, and the seeding density directly depends on the distance between the grooves in the sleeve.

The difference between seeders lies in the different ways of feeding the seeds. But they all work on the principle of transferring torque from the wheels to the shaft. The shaft should be grooved to serve as seed dispensers, and the top of the shaft should be in contact with the dispensing container.

The size of the bushings on the shaft is the largest diameter of the seed, one seed gets into one hole on the shaft. The movement of the planter wheels causes seeds to drop through the holes under the shaft.

Furrows are made with small plows under each row with the same pitch as the distance between the seed sleeves on the shaft.

To make a seeder at home, you will need to select the right materials for your design.

The simplest mechanism consists of the following mandatory components:

  • Two wheels firmly fixed on one axle.
  • Drum (shaft), which acts as a dispenser.
  • Seed hopper.
  • The long handle, with the help of which the seeder will move - the pusher.

We make the first version of a homemade seeder with steel wheels of our own production. We perform the following actions:

  • We cut out two discs from a two-millimeter metal sheet, each with a diameter of 26 cm.
  • Along the perimeter of the wheels, we make 24 cuts with a depth of 1 cm and bend the petals 90 degrees.
  • In the center of each disc, we drill a hole for an axis with a diameter of 1 cm.
  • Drum: An old pulley from a washing machine will serve as a dispenser.
  • We drill holes for seeds along the entire length of the pulley in increments of 0.3 cm.
  • The depth and width of the grooves should be approximately equal to the size of the sown seeds, in our drawing it is 0.2 cm.
  • We fix the wheels and the pulley on the same axis.
  • We make a handle from a rod with a diameter of 1.2 cm: on one side we cut a thread and screw a nut on a wrench 17, then we weld to it two ready-made rectangular plates measuring 10 by 1.2 cm.In the plates we pre-drill through holes with a diameter of 1.2 cm and put it on the shaft from both sides. With the remaining unsecured side of the plate, we weld it to the nut of the pusher handle.
  • We solder the seed hopper from a thin tin and be sure to solder the ears to it for a strong screw connection with the pusher. We also solder brackets in the form of a triangle to the handle, so that later it can be connected to the metering hopper with M4 bolts. The bottom of the hopper should taper and fit snugly against the pulley. The simplest homemade seeder is ready.

Testimonials

I sowed Nantes improved in granules - I liked it, but it took a long time to sprout, but it came up so that it didn't have to be thinned out, it grew quickly, large and tasty. Sowing Touchon in homemade toilet paper granules. It took a long time to sprout, but quickly gained weight, delicious, even. Although I tried to sow the Amsterdam variety less often, it sprouted in the forest in a week. Grew up small, but tasty. All varieties were grown on one high bed in a sunny place in a row of each variety. The conclusion is this: the less often the carrot sits, the faster it grows and gains weight, even if it sprouted for a very long time.

I liked Champion and Niagara the most. These varieties have a large yield of marketable products (at least cracked and "horny"), almost all of the nectar was pulled out and eaten earlier, which is also quite good.

Any carrot itself will fit for juice, but there are very fortified varieties that should be better suited specifically for juice. First of all, these are Dunyasha and the Charovnitsa, take a closer look at them and drink very healthy carrot juice for your health.

I've been experimenting for many years. Planted varieties of Nantes, Queen of Autumn, Autumn King, Children's, Marlinka F1. But year after year is not necessary. Sometimes it came out sweet and sometimes it didn't. I don’t know, maybe it’s a deception with seeds, or it all depends on the weather in summer.

Recently, I fell in love with Shantane or Shantane Royal carrots - they are called differently by different seed producers. These carrots are really juicy. I compared the loaded weight and yield of carrot juice with carrots of Nantes - well, no comparison, Shantane is much more juicy. And its size is good, the smallest grows 18 centimeters, blunt, it is convenient to clean, it is stored excellently - in general, this variety of carrots suits me absolutely.
